Crash kills one in Georgetown County

One person died as a result of a one-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon in Georgetown County, S.C. Highway Patrol officials said.

The incident happened about 12:30 p.m. Sunday on Wedgefield Plantation, which is 3 1/2 miles north of Georgetown, when the driver of a Toyota Camry traveling east on Wedgefield Road ran off the roadway and struck a tree, said highway patrol Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins with the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Georgetown County's emergency manager Sam Hodge identified the person as Brenda Johnson, 63, of Georgetown.

Johnson, who was the only person in the car, was not wearing a seatbelt, Collins said.

The crash remains under investigation, Collins said.
