Democrats

The Horry County Democratic Party Cookbook is now available. It features almost 200 pages of recipes contributed by Horry County and other Democrats. To get a copy for $12, call the party office at 488-4237.

The North Strand Democratic Club's monthly meeting takes place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Underdogs Restaurant, 304 E. S.C. 90 in the Sportszonecenter, Little River. The group will show the film "Processed People," a documentary that explores how fast food, fast medicine, fast news and fast lives have turned many Americans into a sick, uninformed, indebted, "processed" people. The Beach Dems will hear from Dwight Drake, Democratic candidate for governor, at the regular breakfast meeting, 8 to 9 a.m. Friday at Akel's Pancake House, corner of 65th Avenue North and Kings Highway, Myrtle Beach. The breakfast buffet is $7 per person.

O. Fayrell Furr, Jr., is sponsoring a fundraiser for candidate Rob Miller, who's running against Rep. Joe Wilson. The event is scheduled for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 17 at Furr's office, 1900 N. Oak St., Myrtle Beach.

Republicans

The Myrtle Beach Republican Women's Club will hear from guest speakers Larry Grooms, a candidate for governor, and Ken Ard, a candidate for lieutenant governor, at the monthly meeting from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Dunes Golf & Ocean Club, 9000 N. Ocean Blvd., Myrtle Beach. The lunch buffet is $20 per person.

The group is gathering items for the Support Our Troops project, a "Christmas Hero Box," and is asking that people bring donations for the BlueStar Mothers of Coastal Carolina to the luncheon. They are looking for nonperishable foods, toiletries, dried fruit, baby wipes, new magazines, snacks, air fresheners, medicated powder, small games, black ponytail holders, playing cards, candy/gum, travel size skin lotion, aspirin or other pain relievers in travel-size containers, toothbrushes, crossword puzzles, wrapping paper, tissues, postcards with no stamps, eye drops, greeting cards, CDs, DVDs, bug spray, cough drops, pens and pencils, envelopes, dark socks, batteries, foot-care products, coffee singles or instant coffee, disposable cameras, microwave popcorn, small packs of dry cereal, phone cards, hot chocolate packs, tea bags, white tube socks, pillow cases, twin-bed zippered plastic mattress covers and microwavable cakes or other desserts.

The Northern Horry Republican Club will meet at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Taffy's Restaurant, 1839 U.S. 701 S., Loris, about 3 miles south of the city. Guest speaker will be Carroll Campbell, III, a candidate for the 1st Congressional District.

Breakfast buffet is $6.50 per person including tip.
