Flu shots start today
Horry County School students will be able to get a free H1N1 flu vaccine beginning today. Children at Aynor, Pee Dee, Midland and South Conway elementary schools will be first to get the shots offered through a partnership with the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control. The clinics will run from 10:30 a.m. and extend until 6 p.m. at different schools throughout the week. For a schedule of the clinics, visit www.horrycountyschools.net.
Shaken baby trial begins
A Portsmouth, Ohio, man whose child died while vacationing in Myrtle Beach will stand trial this week with jury selection starting today in Conway, court officials said.
Miles Ferguson, 26, is charged with homicide by child abuse after his 5-week-old daughter, Mylee Grace Ferguson, died Aug. 2, 2007, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
Ferguson remains free on $50,000 bail. Horry County police said the baby suffered injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome.
20 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton led a delegation to Berlin for today's anniversary celebrations marking the fall of the Berlin Wall, along with the U.S. ambassador to Germany; Brett Scowcroft, a top aide to former presidents Gerald Ford and George H.W. Bush; and former President Jimmy Carter's aide Zbigniew Brzezinski.
Sniper execution set
The execution of John Muhammad, who masterminded the 2002 sniper killings that left 10 dead in the Washington, D.C., region, is scheduled for Tuesday.
