Myrtle Beach Police are still investigating a purse snatching incident that happened Monday morning inside K-mart, and a hit-and-run, authorities said.

The incident happened about 9:30 a.m. when a woman snatched a 75-year-old woman's pocketbook and attempted to flee the location, said Capt. David Knipes with the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

After entering her vehicle, the woman struck the 75-year-old victim and two other people, Knipes said. The vehicle was described as a blue, possibly four-door GM Celebrity, or a two-door Pontiac Sunbird.

The woman's vehicle also struck several other vehicles and is believed to have significant damage to the rear of the vehicle, as well as extensive damage to the driver side door, Knipes said.

Witnesses told police that while the woman was fleeing the scene, the driver's side door was forced forward and is not able to be closed. Anyone with any information, please contact Det. Group announces support for McBride

Help Eliminate Lousy Politicians for Myrtle Beach, a group that formed in the wake of the Myrtle Beach City Council's actions to quell the May motorcycle rallies, announced Tuesday it is supporting former mayor Mark McBride in the runoff election.

HELP spokeswoman Tricia Cunningham held a press conference to announce the group's intentions. She said she and other HELP members had met with both McBride and current Mayor John Rhodes and after speaking with both candidates, chose to support McBride because he told the group he was willing to form committees to address the group's issues.

The group has always backed council candidate Mike Lowder, who is also in a runoff with two incumbents, Randal Wallace and Chuck Martino, but hadn't publicly backed a mayoral candidate.

She said the organization has been trying to make sure people get to the polls to vote, and will offer rides for people on Tuesday.

To arrange a ride through HELP, call 448-7596, extension 0.
