In Conway, the historic Bryan House at 606 Main St., which was built in 1912, is being prepared for the Horry County Historical Society's annual Holiday Market.

"The Holiday Market is our largest fundraiser, and it helps us make it through the year," said Horry County Historical Society President Carlisle Dawsey.

The Holiday Market will be open Saturday through Nov. 7. Hours for every day except Sunday are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Sunday, the hours are 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Tickets are $5 each or $20 for five.

Sharyn Holliday, June Brown and Rebecca Ludlam are co-chairwomen for the event.

"The Bryan house is a gracious old Southern home. It is a unique place to come and visit, so you can enjoy being in the house, as well as doing your shopping," Holliday said.

Anderson Brothers Bank is sponsoring this year's market, where the theme is Meander the Market. Several merchants are designing and decorating different areas of the house and will have many of their products there for sale, including plants and other greenery, Christmas decorations, Christmas china and other holiday items, children's items, kitchen items and more.

Each merchant has contributed something that will be raffled.

Coffee, snacks, sandwiches, soups, other foods and beverages can be purchased in the Carriage House, which is the garage, and some local art will be for sale there. Only the first floor is handicap accessible.

Sharyn Holliday said it is a good place to go to see what is in style for the holidays this year, to get some ideas for decorating your own home and to see some of the merchandise offered by the different merchants.

The Horry County Historical Society is made up of volunteers that work to record and preserve the county's long and rich history.

Since the 1960s, the organization has published the Independent Republic Quarterly and offers many of those issues and other historic publications for sale at the headquarters in the Bryan House and online at www.hchsonline.org, where numerous historical records can be viewed.

"We can't thank our sponsors enough for their caring attitudes and their willingness to help the society," Dawsey said. "We want to encourage everyone to stop by and shop and prepare for the holidays and have a good time."

In last Thursday's column, the date was wrong for the Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead celebration hosted by the Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum. The free family day event is Nov. 7, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The art museum is at 3100 S. Ocean Blvd., Myrtle Beach.
