"This year's event is sold out," announced Martha's House Board Chairman the Rev. Charles B. Nunn. The Oct. 26 luncheon and fashion show to support Martha's House was hosted by The Lakes at Litchfield in Pawleys Island where Nunn serves at chaplain.

An audience of nearly 100 guests enjoyed lunch prepared by The Lakes at Litchfield's chef Peter and his staff and fall fashions provided by Affordables in Pawleys Island. Seven volunteers modeled outfits that focused on versatile jackets, well-fitting slacks and colorful accessories.

The event, organized by Martha's House board members and volunteers, was held to raise funds for the nonprofit organization that is striving to establish a Christian halfway house for women who've been released from detention centers in Horry, Georgetown and Williamsburg Counties. The mission of Martha's House is to provide counseling, education and mentoring that will prepare women to re-enter society and support themselves and their families.

"We want women who are released from incarceration to be able to enter an environment that is safe and nurturing," said Susan Tyler, Martha's House founder and board vice chairwoman. "So often, women who are released have to go back home, and that's where they get into trouble again."
