The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team had five players earn individual honors when the Big South handed out its yearly awards on Wednesday.
Junior Anna Tupy and senior Dana Gentile were named to the All-Big South First Team while seniors Maegen Hellberg and Sarah McPartlan earned second team honors with Hellberg also earning All-Academic team honors. Morgan Thomas was named to the All-Freshman Team.
Tupy had five goals and four assists while Gentile is second in the Big South and leads the Chanticleers with 11 goals and 22 points.
Charleston Southern's Marky Boyce was named the league's player of the year, Radford's Mary Wiley was the freshman of the year, Liberty's Jessica Hain was the coach of the year and VMI's Audrey Falconi was the scholar-athlete of the year.
The Big South Women's Soccer Championships tournament starts today in Charleston. Coastal Carolina plays VMI at 11:30 a.m. in the first round.
Girls high school tennis
The Region VII-AAA all-region team has been announced and Myrtle Beach led the way with five players named to the squad.
North Myrtle Beach had four players selected with St. James landing three on the team and Socastee, Georgetown and Lake City each with two players selected.
Last season's The Sun News' Toast of the Coast Player of the Year Jordan Lazarus of Myrtle Beach earned the region's automatic berth into the state singles tournament and Georgetown's Grace George and North Myrtle Beach's Brianne Heinz shared coach of the year honors.
