Knock Down Drag Out
Sequins, boas, high heels and lots of drama – this is the drag competition of the year. Drag shows and pageants come and go, but at no other time has the entertainment pool been so diverse. From the seasoned queen to the nervous first-timer, the KnockDown Drag Out! drag competition at Time-Out! has drawn many into the ring during the past few months. Now it’s time to see who’s really got what it takes as local drag performer Morgan Richards hosts the final round of drag competition on Monday late-night. Who will be the winner of the inaugural KnockDown DragOut? The finalists are Lady Manirva, Akasha Tate, Imani Tate, Paris Deevine Dazie, Jazzy Thunderpussy and Ausia Lee.
If you go: KnockDown DragOut’s final competition is Monday at Time Out!, 520 Eighth Ave. N. in Myrtle Beach. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the competition starts around midnight. There is no cover before 9 p.m. and $2 after.
What you need to know: First off, get there early. There’s expected to be a huge crowd for the finals and you’ll want to get a good seat. Throughout the competition, the crowd has decided the winner, so contestants have been corralling their fans together for more votes. Each finalist will perform two numbers and the rules for voting have changed a bit. Instead of voting by applause, each patron will now receive a ticket upon entering the club and will vote via ballot box. There's an added twist though. For every drink you purchase, alcoholic or non-alcoholic, you will receive an additional vote ticket.
What the winner gets: The first place winner will receive $150 cash. Second place wins $100 and third place wins $50. In addition, everyone who has competed will get a chance to perform at Time Out! during the next year.
