Hunting
Dec. 14-19 | Fall 2009 Cape Romain Refuge Bulls Island archery hunts for white-tailed deer. Hunters must possess the required state hunting license and equipment. Each hunter must check in and sign the register before setting up camp and/or starting to hunt. Hunters under the age of 16 must have successfully completed a state-approved hunters education course and be under the immediate supervision of an adult. Cape Romain Refuge will provide doe tags. The camping area on Bulls Island will remain open from 9 a.m. on the Sunday preceding each hunt until noon on the Sunday following each hunt. Only registered hunters will be allowed to camp. Hunters must provide their own transportation to and from Bulls Island. Only portable hunting stands that will not injure trees are allowed. Firearms and ammunition, motorized equipment, crossbows, poison arrows, dogs, nails, wire, paint and flagging are prohibited. Bicycles will be allowed. Additional information may be obtained from the Sewee Visitor & Environmental Education Center at 843-928-3368.

Nov. 15 | 5k benefit walk/run held hosted by the UNCW School of Nursing graduating class of Dec. 2009 to benefit a former classmates' husband who was critically injured while serving in the military will be held at Hugh McRae Park in Wilmington, N.C., at 10 a.m. Nov. 15. A BBQ fundraiser will be from noon-4 p.m. Minimum donation for 5K participants is $10, which includes a T-shirt and raffle ticket. All profits will go directly to the Pearl family. Nov. 13-15-USA-Swimming, the national governing body, is hosting the 2009 USA-S Southern Zone Regional Coaches clinic at Friday-Sunday at Bay Watch Resort in North Myrtle Beach. The clinic is expected to bring in over 60 coaches from around the region.The clinic begins Friday and will conclude Sunday at the Bay Watch Resort in NMB.
