THE LOCALE | Hillbilly's Still 'N' Grill, Little River
THE LOWDOWN | Come be part of the "fam-damily" at Hillbilly's Still 'N' Grill...they'll be happy you'ins stopped in. That's where we hit this week for happy hour to enjoy all-day drink specials.
Hillbilly's Still 'N' Grill is a friendly neighborhood bar. Ironically, most of the patrons are Yankees - but, that doesn't take away from the hillbilly feel of the locale.
You'll see everything from washboards and clothes lines with laundry to wild game hanging on the wall, including a turkey tail, mink tail, deer antlers (note - the deer was not shot, it was hit by a car) and a turkey claw giving you the middle finger. The bathrooms look like outhouses. Checkered table cloths cover the tables. Hillbilly versions of items are even on display, including a golf club, phone and toothbrush, all made out of wood.
The owner, originally from the mountains of North Carolina, says "I'm a hillbilly, so that's where the grill's name came from." She also boasts about her delicious homecookin'. The menu includes, "samiches," "wangs," fried livermush and baby back ribs. (And no, Hillbilly's Still 'N' Grill does not serve road kill - I asked.)
There are 10 TVs for your viewing enjoyment and Thursday-Saturday there's entertainment for your listening pleasure. On Thursdays, Randy Atwood plays the guitar and sings, there's a deejay on Fridays, and a country band plays on Saturdays.
Happy Hour is all day everyday - but there are different specials. On Sundays, for NFL football, there's $10 buckets of beer and 50-cent hot dogs. It's $2 vodka all day on Mondays, and $2 tequila all day on Tuesdays. Wednesday is "Men's Day" - with $2 bourbon and 25-cent discount on bottled beer, and during Thursdays' "Ladies Day" it's $2 house liquor and 50-cent discounted bottled beer and wine. From 4-7 p.m. on Free Food Fridays, you can enjoy homemade appetizers, and on Saturdays, golfers get 50-cent discounts on drinks with their score card.
