Dear John

No, it's not a belated big-screen version of that Judd Hirsch sitcom from the '80s. Instead, this three-hankie teen weepie is based on a Nicholas Sparks novel about the stormy love affair between a soldier (Channing Tatum) and a university student (Amanda Seyfried), separated by his frequent tours of duty as well has her disapproving family. Swedish director Lasse Hallstrom ("The Cider House Rules") directs.
