SULLIVANS ISLAND, S.C. -- The National Park Service is letting the public get an up-close look at a lighthouse with an open house at Charleston Light on Sullivans Island.
The event is Sunday afternoon on the grounds of the lighthouse.
For safety reasons, only the base of the lighthouse is open. But the public can wander the grounds and visit the quarters cupola and the boat house.
The Save the Light organization is also reporting on the progress of its work to preserving the nearby Morris Island Light.
The light on Sullivans Island replaced the Morris Island Light in 1962.
