Car hits, kills S.C. man while he does yardwork

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. -- Authorities say a man stacking yard waste by the road has been struck and killed by a car.

Multiple media outlets reported that 72-year-old William Adams was hit by a car Sunday afternoon while in the yard of his North Augusta home.

Authorities say Adams had trimmed some plants and bushes and was putting the trimmings by the road when he was hit.

Investigators say the driver first thought she hit a trash can, but returned to the scene when she realized she may have hit a person. North Augusta authorities are investigating whether charges should be filed.
