Just three races remain on the 2009 Truck Series schedule and RonHornaday Jr owns a 202-point lead over Matt Crafton. Despite placing 17thlast week at Talladega, Hornaday continues to hold down the top spot, althoughhis advantage was cut by 22 points. Crafton finished 10th behind race winnerKyle Busch last week to pick up some much needed points. 1995 NASCAR TruckSeries champion Mike Skinner, third on the points list, dropped to 327 pointsbehind with his 19th-place showing.Hornaday should gain some momentum with only three races left, as he entersthis week's race as the defending champion. Last season, Hornaday overcame aone-lap deficit and led the final 40 laps to clip Busch by less than a second.With the win, Hornaday recorded a season-sweep at Texas as he won here in Juneof 2008. It was his sixth victory of that season and the 39th of his career.With six titles this year, Hornaday's win total now stands at 45.Ted Musgrave reclaimed the lead with just two laps remaining in 2007 and thencruised to victory under caution thanks to an accident on the final lap,as he recorded his 17th career Truck Series title. Brendan Gaughan finishedsecond, while pole sitter Mike Skinner placed third after leading for a race-high 40 laps.In 2006, Clint Bowyer registered his first career Camping World Series title,as he crossed the finish line three lengths ahead of Busch. Bowyer, who saton the pole, led on two separate occasions for a race-high 103 laps. Bowyerled for the first 49 laps, however Skinner took the lead through lap 94,however Bowyer reclaimed the advantage and never looked back, as he posted a0.279 of a second victory. Skinner, who started alongside Bowyer, placedthird.In 2005, Todd Bodine crossed the finish line about half a second ahead of MikeSkinner for the win. The victory was Bodine's third of that season and thefifth of his Truck career. Skinner was the pole sitter and led forthe first 25 laps and 80 overall. Bodine took the lead with just 23 lapsremaining and held on for the checkered flag. With the win, Bodine joinedBrendan Gaughan as the only back-to-back champions of this race. Gaughanaccomplished the feat in 2002-03.Bodine will attempt to become the third driver to score a season sweep atTexas Motor Speedway, having won June's WinStar World Casino 400. BrendanGaughan took both races in 2002-03, while Hornaday Jr was a double winner lastyear. Bodine's June victory made him the first NASCAR Camping World TruckSeries competitor to win five times at the same track.Texas Motor Speedway was the first high-speed track added to the NASCARCraftsman Truck schedule in June 1997. The track has hosted two races perseason since 1999 when the Chevy Silverado 350K made its debut. BrendanGaughan set a NASCAR Craftsman Truck record in 2002-03 winning fourconsecutive races.
