William & Mary shuts out Towson State 31-0

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- R.J. Archer ran for a touchdown and passed for another, and William & Mary beat Towson State 31-0 on Saturday.

Archer, who went 14-for-26 for 206 yards, threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Eric Robertson. Archer also scored on an 8-yard run.

Jonathan Grimes and Courtland Marriner each scored on 2-yard runs for the Tribe (8-1, 5-1 Colonial Athletic Association).

The Tribe has won four games in a row and has equaled the program's best mark through nine games since 1986.

The Tribe, the top-ranked defense in the Football Championship Subdivision, forced three turnovers and held the Tigers (2-7, 1-5) to 201 total yards of offense. Towson State was held to 79 yards rushing on 29 carries and 11 first downs.

It was the first shutout of the season for the Tribe.

The Tigers used two quarterbacks, and Jeremy Jayne went 9-for-16 for 86 yards passing.
