Recycle holiday trees

The Horry County Solid Waste Authority is hosting the Grinding of the Greens program through Jan. 20.

Bring your real tree - no wreaths, please - to a designated Christmas tree drop-off site, Horry County Recycling Center or your city curbside service will pick it up.

Be sure to remove all decorations, lights and tinsel.

In late January or early February, the resulting Christmas tree mulch will be available for free pick-up.

The Myrtle Beach drop-off site, open 24 hours a day, is on 10th Avenue North behind Myrtle Waves water park.

You also may take your trees to one the Solid Waste Authority recycling center on International Drive between Ocean Bay Elementary School and the Horry County Fire Station. Hours: 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Saturday - except Thursdays, when the center is closed - and 1 p.m.-7 p.m. Sundays. 903-4792

Golf tourney set

The 11th annual Myrtle Beach FFA Golf Tournament will be Jan. 24 at Quail Creek Golf Club located off Highway U.S. 501, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization.

Registration for the tournament, which will be Captain's Choice, begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Lunch will be served from noon to 2 p.m. An awards ceremony and auction will conclude the event.

Proceeds from this tournament go to support the agriculture, horticulture and golf course programs at Carolina Forest High School. This event has enabled the school's Myrtle Beach FFA Chapter to award 37 scholarships to seniors.

Giving mom a break

Moms Morning Out at Carolina Bays Academy, located in Carolina Forest Community Church is open 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings to give moms a break.

The fee is $15, and you only pay when your child attends. Babies from 6 months through children 4 years old are accepted.

Mom's Morning Out

Mom's Morning Out meets 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursdays at Rocking Chair Books, 2683 U.S. 701 N., Unit 4, Conway.

The cost is $25 per child.
