Free museum fun

The Horry County Museum at 4 p.m. every Thursday through March holds a free program called Farm Buddies for children age 5 and older.

The purpose is to educate kids and have fun while doing it. They will experience the art of quilt making, plant seeds in a garden, and pick fruits and vegetables. Farm Buddies spotlights traditions of the family farm in the early 1900s. The program's events correlate with the farming season.

The museum, 438 Main St., Conway, is at the corner of 5th Avenue and Main Street.

Call the Horry County Museum at 915-5320 or send e-mail to HCMuseum@horrycounty.org.

In addition, Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops are welcome to tour the museum for free the second Thursday evening of each month. A museum staff member will provide a guided tour, and the staff also will work with troop leaders to plan visits focusing on badges or troop projects.

An appointment is necessary. Call Carmin F. Samaha at 915-5320 or send an e-mail to samahac@horrycounty.org.

The museum also continues Preschool Tuesdays until May. It begins at 10:30 a.m. Children 5 and younger and their parents and guardians are invited to come learn about Horry County history and enjoy hands-on fun including quilt making.
