Basketball lessons | Former Coastal Carolina basketball players Jack Leasure and Colin Stevens and former CCU coach John Bennett are instructing basketball lessons for individuals and groups of up to four players ages 6-18 at the Manzer Basketball Academy, which conducts most of its sessions at the YMCA in Myrtle Beach. Also, they are doing training on Saturdays this month for ages 10 and up at North Myrtle Beach High School from 9-12 p.m. For more information, e-mail manzerbasketball@gmail.com.

Oct. 29 | Glow Ball for Education Golf Tournament at Heron Point Golf Club. Nine holes daylight, nine holes glowball after dark; four-person captain's choice, shotgun start at 4:30 p.m. Dinner at the turn. Tournament supports AMERICA'S EDUCATION INC, a non-profit educational organization bringing Science based programs to area schools for at risk and accelerated students K-12. Entry fee $35 per person.
Oct. 30-Nov. 1 | Wachesaw Plantation Four-Ball Invitational, Wachesaw Plantation, for players 25 and older. Two-man gross best ball format, mid-amateur division for players 25, senior division for players at least 55. Entry fee of $500 includes range balls, gift, brunch/lunch each day, gift certificate awards for top third of each division, practice round from Oct. 12-29 excluding weekends and not including cart fee.
Oct. 30-Nov. 1 | Fourth annual Mayor's Cup women's tournament, Whispering Pines Golf Club, 54-hole gross stroke play format, 8 a.m. starting tee times. Tournament entry fee of $150 includes gift bag with a hat, shirt, sweatshirt and golf shoes; lunch each day, including prime rib after final round; and trophies and gift certificate awards. Nov. 9 | Calabash VFW Post 7288's annual golf tournament will be held at Sea Trail (Byrd Course). Tee time is 8:30 a.m. with a 7:30 a.m. show time. Lunch and refreshments, flight and course awards as well as door prizes to follow at the Post, which is located at 900 Carter Drive in Calabash, N.C. Nov. 14 | Fifth annual Matt Evans Memorial Tournament to benefit American Legion Charities. Nov. 7 | Inaugural Scottie Marlowe Memorial Tournament, Wedgefield Plantation, 10 a.m., four-person teams, Captain's Choice format. Entry fee is $50 per person. All proceeds donated to the South Carolina Waterfowl Association. Hole sponsorships available. A discounted combination of the SC Waterfowl Associations's banquet entry held at East Bay Park on November 19 with a hole sponsorship of $300. Dec. 19 | Christmas Child Tournament, Man O'War and Wizard courses, captain's choice format, 10 a.m. shotgun start. Entry fee of $65 per player includes lunch at turn, prizes to the top eight four-person teams, and raffle. Foursome with hole and green sponsorships is $345. Limited to first 64 teams. Proceeds will provide Christmas gifts to the McDonald's Angel Tree project and the Children of the Lighthouse Center. Organizers are requesting players bring a gift for boy ages 12-17 to tournament.
