Bowling

Todd wins state tournament | Grand Strand Hall of Famer Tony Todd, who qualified fifth in the SC State Match Games, bowled at GooseCreek this past weekend. Todd rolled through the match game finals and won all his matches to claim the championship. Other Grand Strand bowlers that were among the top 10 qualifiers were Mike Albert, the number three qualifier who finished fourth, Jeff Evans in fifth and Terry Decker finished eighth.

From the scoresheets | Wayne Gilbert was 103 pins over his average when he rolled a 276 game in the Palmetto Classic at Waccamaw...Youth bowler Jordan Magyar rolled the step ladder with games of 133, 134 and 135 in the Surfside Sand Dollars League...Bob Romanelli bowled 179 pins over his average when he had a 620 series in the Conway Hospital League at Waccamaw.

Secretary of the Year | The following league secretaries were selected as secretary of the year by the Grand Strand Bowling Association for 2008-09. Terri Kaulfers-Little River; Larry Borries-Surfside Beach; Debbie Kicklighter-Waccamaw; Bob Reed-Waccamaw.

Tennis

Brunswick junior tennis program concludes second season | Twenty-eight junior tennis players (ages 11-14) participated in the Brunswick County (N.C.) Junior Tennis Program's second fall season. In addition to twice weekly practices throughout September and October, the juniors from Shallotte and Southport also played in two cross-county matches, culminating in a season-ending Halloween-themed match/party at South Brunswick High School on Oct. 28. Plans are under way for a Spring Season next April. Recruiting efforts are needed for both junior tennis players and BCTA volunteers to ensure continuation of this program. Swimming

Myrtle Beach Riptides continue to break records | Seven Myrtle Beach Riptides swimmers combined to break 16 team records at an intra-squad event Oct. 30-31 at the Pepper Geddings Recreation Center. Garrett Beauprez set team records in the boys' 11-12 1650-freestyle and 200-butterfly. Chad Bateson set the mark in the 200-breaststroke and twin-brother Eddie set the mark in the 200-backstroke and 400-IM for 11-12 year olds. Andi Churchill set a new record in the 10-and-under girls' 500-free and Danielle Flaherty set team marks in the 100-backstroke, 100-breaststroke and 200-IM. Jack King led all Riptides swimmers with five new records in the boys' 10-and-under 200- and 500-freestyles, 100-backstroke, 100-breaststroke, and 200-IM. Megan Kingsley set two more records in the 13-14 girls' 200-butterfly and 400-IM while Keenan Lineback tied the girls' Open record in the 200-breastroke.
