Reformers Unanimous is extremely helpful during this season of parties and New Year's celebrations, where excesses are often experienced.

RU is a free, Christ-centered addictions program that directs people to God's ultimate support group: the local New Testament church.

RU meets every Friday evening from 7 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. at Grand Strand Baptist Church.

Meeting every Friday night has taught some unique lessons in 2008, particularly because the Fourth of July occurred on a Friday. After agonizing over whether to assemble on the night of the 4th, we went ahead as scheduled. At least three students remarked that they didn't know how they would have dealt with the holiday if someone hadn't been available for them.

RU doesn't encourage the afflicted to get up in front of a group and remind themselves of their addictions: rather, we lead students to the truth of freedom from bondage through Christ only as expressed by Jesus in John 8:31 and 32.

If you are struggling with an addiction to anything - alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, overeating, gambling, pornography - a great way to begin 2009 is to join us Jan. 2 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Grand Strand Baptist Church.

RU tired of programs that require you to remind yourself of your problems?

RU tired of costly treatments that don't work?

RU tired of making New Year's resolutions year after year that you cant keep?

Come join us and we'll show you how you can know the truth, and the truth shall make you free: Finally!

Mike Datlof is the director of the Reformers Unanimous program at Grand Strand Baptist Church, 350 Hospitality Lane (across from Tanger Outlet Center).
