Happy Birthday, Derksheide Twins
Anna and Jake Derksheide turned 17 on May 3. Both are students at the Scholars Academy and get straight A's. Amazing. Even though the school work load is incredible they both have jobs too. Jake works at Chick-fil-A and Anna works at Chili's. When they graduate from the Scholars Academy they will have already received college credits, up to two years depending on where they go. I know their parents are very proud of them.
Interesting people around Waterford
Since I moved into Waterford about six years ago, there are a few people that I see on a daily basis, doing pretty much the same thing, every time I see them. I have noticed some changes in one of these people: He now wears shoes, has a deeper voice, and has grown about two feet. You have probably noticed him too. He is a quiet guy who is always busy. His name is Austin Howell. Austin is 13 years old and has spent the last seven years fishing in the ponds around Waterford, nearly every day. The board should ask Austin his opinion about the condition of our ponds, he is sure to know. I don't know anyone that has spent more time around our water.
Austin told me that his favorite pond is the one with the water fountain behind the sales office. He has caught large mouth bass, mud fish, carp, cat fish, brim, shiners, warmouths, crappy and even eel in that pond. The largest fish he ever caught here was a 10-pound bass. He uses lewers, worms, brim and shiners as bait and always throws what he catches back.
Some of Austin's neighborhood fishing buddies are; Paul and Phillip Blayton, Matt Gasper, Sal, and Ben Roleson. All of these boys are students at Ocean Bay Middle and Carolina Forest High School. What a nice group of boys. If you like to fish, join them.
