Students from the marketing communications major and DECA Club at the Academy for Technology and Academics in Carolina Forest recently brought home seven awards as finalists from the 2008 DECA competition.
A competitive events team traveled to Mount Pleasant, where Wando High School hosted the Region III event Dec. 10. Regional events consist of a 100 question test and management-related role play in the students' choice of 11 marketing-related industries.
The five-hour event held anticipation and anxiety for every student as they awaited their results at the evening's awards ceremony. The State DECA Career and Development Conference takes place in February where finalists compete once again.
DECA is the co-curricular student organization for students enrolled in marketing, management, or entrepreneurial courses. Through participation in DECA, students have the opportunity to participate in competitive events, to build leadership skills, to network with other students and professionals in the field of marketing, and to attain scholarships.
