St. James (2-7) at Socastee (4-5)

When | 7:30 p.m.

The game | The Sharks have had a disappointing season. St. James coach Billy Hurston said in the preseason that anything short of six or seven wins would be a "letdown." The Sharks have fallen well short of that and face a second straight winless season in Region VII-AAA. But a win tonight over their biggest rival would provide a lot of relief heading into the offseason. The Sharks last region win was a 21-20 victory over the Braves to end the 2007 season. Senior running back Donald Duncan has been the Sharks best player this season, rushing for 625 yards and seven touchdowns with a 5.2 yards per carry average. St. James has been outscored this season 254-122. Socastee knows it is in the playoffs and has a good hold on the region's third seed. The Braves are in decent shape health-wise for this late in the season and their option attack is as potent as ever. Socastee has three players with between 620 and 669 yards rushing and its offensive balance is tough for teams to defend. The fact that this game is on Thursday will give the Braves coaches an opportunity to scout their potential first-round playoff opponent on Friday night.

Last season | Socastee 39, St. James 27

Favorite | Socastee
