Two people have filed applications to run for the vacant seat on the Atlantic Beach Town Council, as the filing period continues for more than another week, officials said.

Josephine Isom, a longtime Horry County courthouse employee who fell only a few votes short of a council seat in 2007, filed for the seat this week.

Kantrese Wright, a town resident and 27-year-old Horry-Georgetown Technical College student, said she is running in hopes of getting the town "back on track."

Filing for the seat left vacant with Retha Pierce's election last month to mayor began on Friday and will continue at town hall until Feb. 27. The election will be April 14, and the winner will serve until November, the remainder of Pierce's term.
