Combine a wonderful walk in the park with the chance to see and purchase unique pieces of artwork this weekend at the 37th annual Waccamaw Arts and Crafts Guild Art in the Park.
Works of art from artists coming from all over the east coast will be on display Saturday and Sunday at Chapin Park in Myrtle Beach.
The Waccamaw Arts and Crafts Guild, a nonprofit organization started in 1969, hosts three Art in the Park shows each year and all occur in Chapin Park which fronts Kings Highway between 14th and 16th avenues North.
Joanne Utterback, director of the guild for eight years, is looking forward to seeing what artists from different states and communities have to bring this year. This weekend, out of town artists are coming from as far away as Pennsylvania, Florida and Tennessee to show off their creations in Horry County.
"Out-of-towners really bring more variety," says Utterback.
However, among the travelling artists, Art in the Park still offers a chance for local artists to shine, especially in autumn. The Guild hosts numerous events throughout the year, but Utterback knows that each season brings something different.
"Fall typically brings out more local artists," she says. About 20 of the over 60 artists participating are from local communities.
Typical art will include paintings, woodworking, photography, pottery, blown glass and jewelry. The artwork will be on display and available for purchase from individual vendors.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free. If you would like more information contact the Waccamaw Arts and Crafts Guild at 448-7690 or at www.artsyparksy.com.
