Rock out with your grill out on Independence Day
It is official, Independence Day weekend is here. What does that mean for us here in the Myrtle Beach area? Fireworks and high returns in the tourism business, but these rewards are often associated with the downside - unmovable traffic, overstuffed restaurants and crowded beaches. So, what do many of us as residents choose to do? Stay home of course. While we are being held hostage by invaders - we might as well make our imprisonment a party.

Whistle while you camp
Heading into the wilderness for a camping adventure? Better bring the essentials. Campers are advised to pack a map, compass, flashlight, sunglasses, emergency fuel, waterproof matches, pocketknife, personal first aid kit, whistle and extra supplies such as food, water and clothing.
Many of these items are simple and low-tech. But they can do more for a stranded camper than many high-tech gadgets, which may not function under tree cover.
The whistle, for example, is meant to serve as an attention-getting if a camper is lost. Screaming will eventually weaken a camper's voice whereas a whistle can continue making sound indefinitely.
