Ask The Sun News' golf beat writer your questions about such things as golf course facts, tournaments, players and golf events in the Myrtle Beach Area.
Q:I was wondering if anyone has approached Dustin Johnson about his interest in helping promote Myrtle Beach as a golf destination. MB has long been known as one of the best places for a golf trip and those of us that are local understand how important golf courses are to our local economy. With all that Dustin has done on tour it seems to be more logical to have him as the "face" of MB golf rather than a former Chicago Bear that nobody remembers. Royer Golf Academy remains, namesake does not
The Hugh Royer Champions Golf Academy at Long Bay Club no longer has its namesake. Royer, who played three years on the PGA Tour and won four Nationwide Tour events before concentrating on teaching, is no longer at the academy, though there is a...
Telling Time
To help my students improve their green reading ability I use the face of a clock. Take four tees and place them around a hole. Like the photo shows, one at 12 o'clock, one at 3 o'clock, one at 6 o'clock and one at 9 o'clock.
Shaft in Line
Once again you need to remember the putting stroke is an arc, not a straight line. It is not a straight line because the ball is to the side of you. You want to get the putter shaft in line with your forearms.
Hips Over
In putting you want to be as stable as possible from your hips down. Getting your hips over your heels allows you to put your weight on the balls of your feet. This will activate the inside muscles of your legs.
Tradition Club, Myrtle Beach National join forces
Myrtle Beach National Co. has taken over management of its third course in the past six months as it continues to add to the largest collection of courses on the Grand Strand.
Litchfield Country Club
You're not likely to be confused about the era in which Litchfield Country Club was built. The course opened in 1966 as one of the first five 18-hole layouts on the Grand Strand and plays like it with tree-line fairways and a traditional Lowcountry look and feel accentuated by live oaks.
Course review: The Dunes Club rich in history, competition

The Myrtle Beach golf market is rich in diversity, with courses that vary greatly in style, difficulty and price. It's a little light in championship courses, however.
Layout that plays it straight

It's certainly possible to get through a round at Sandpiper Bay Golf & Country Club without losing a ball, it just may have a lot of scuff marks from bark on it.
Course review: Arcadian Shores
Fairways lined by stately oak trees and tall pines, a proximity to the ocean, and the workmanship of some of the world's most talented golf course designers are among the qualities that have endeared so many to Grand Strand golf.
