If you're still buzzing from a Halloween candy-induced sugar high and if PEZ dispensers make you crack up uncontrollably while you're attending a piano recital ala "Seinfeld," then check out the Ninth annual PEZ in the Sun Gathering kicking off today at Springmaid Beach Resort. The convention is all-things PEZ, featuring thousands of the collectible, big-noggin candy dispensers, which sell anywhere from $1 a piece to thousands of dollars for the more rare and collectible, and there will be PEZ racing, and an interactive display that conventioneers can participate in. It's a very laidback and informal event, according to organizer Richie Belyski, but the convention hours are roughly 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, Friday and Saturday. Admission is free. Springmaid Beach Resort is at 3200 S. Ocean Blvd., Myrtle Beach. For more information, call 457-3413 or visit www.PezGathering.com.

FRIDAY

This won't be no Josie and the Pussycats show, but animated metal band Dethklok, stars of Cartoon Network's "Metalocalypse," returns to the House of Blues for a head-banging affair on Friday night, also including co-headliner Mastodon. Dethklok is indeed fictional, but the music is real and will be performed by Metalocalypse's creator Brandon Small and cohorts. Atlanta-based Mastodon is considered one of the pre-eminent forces in the new wave of American metal and is touring in support of its latest disc, "Crack the Skye," a concept album about Tsarist Russia. High on Fire is also on Friday's bill. Doors open at 6 p.m. Friday, the aural assault begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $32-$80. House of Blues is at 4640 U.S. 17 S., Barefoot Landing, North Myrtle Beach. Call 272-3000 or visit www.houseofblues.com.

SATURDAY

If you're dying for more Halloween-style family fun, then check out the Dia de los Muertos (that's Spanish for Day of the Dead) celebration on tap Saturday at the Old Dead Guy Art Museum in Myrtle Beach. A Mexican tradition, this festival features Mexican food, art and entertainment, games, demonstrations, and of course, piñata-busting. The festivities are scheduled from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. The Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum is at 3100 S. Ocean Blvd., Myrtle Beach. For more information, call 238-2510 or visit www.MyrtleBeachArtMuseum.org.

Coastal Carolina University celebrates homecoming this weekend and Coach David Bennett's clawin' Chanticleers hope to bring home a win vs. Big South Conference foe Gardner-Webb during a pivotal gridiron matchup Saturday at Brooks Stadium. Kickoff is at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The homecoming King and Queen will be announced during halftime. Tickets are $15. Brooks Stadium is at 540 University Blvd., Coastal Carolina University, Conway (you can see it from S.C. 544). For more information, call 347-TIXX (8499).

We're not getting any younger around here, but you can feel younger - or at least, The Youngers - at the next South By Southeast Music Feast set for Saturday at the Myrtle Beach Train Depot. The Youngers is a hot, roots-rock/country-ish band from Pennsylvania that draws upon the traditions of storytelling rockers such as Neil Young, Gram Parsons and Bruce Springsteen. If you like Sun Volt, Wilco, The Jayhawks and Ryan Adams, then The Youngers should be up your alley. Hippie Dog Produce will open the show. The Music Feast, in case you didn't know, is exactly that, mixing live music with a pot luck supper and locally-brewed New South beer, in the intimate setting of the restored train depot. The feasting begins at 6 p.m. Saturday, and music starts at 7. Admission is $20 for yearly members, $25 for monthly members (with one-time, no-strings attached monthly memberships available at the door). Admission includes food and beverages, too. The Myrtle Beach Train Depot is at 851 Broadway, Myrtle Beach. For more information, call 272-4050 or visit www.southbysoutheast.org.

Are you ready for something new? How about something Brand New? Then you're in luck as Long Island-based punk/pop/emo/indie rock outfit Brand New, sporting a brand, spanking new disc "Daisy,'' invades the House of Blues on Saturday night, with Thrice and Crime in Stereo in tow. Doors open at 7 p.m. Saturday, the show starts at 8. Tickets are $22.50-$25.50. House of Blues is at 4640 U.S. 17 S., Barefoot Landing, North Myrtle Beach. Call 272-3000 or visit www.houseofblues.com.

SUNDAY

Soup and autumn go together like...we supposed it all depends on whether it feels like fall or not with our schizophrenic weather, but in any event, if you want to get your soup on, head over to Valor Park at The Market Common for the local chapter of the American Culinary Federation's 14th annual Souper Supper from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. A $10 entry fee will allow you to sample from 40 soups, plus bread, desserts and non-alcoholic beverages (Gordon Biersch Restaurant Brewery will have a café bar on site.). Admission is $5 for ages 11 and younger. Live jazz, performed by longtime local musician Charlie Lee and pals, is also on the docket. Valor Park is located off of Farrow Parkway at The Market Common, on the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, between U.S. 17 Bypass and U.S. 17 Business, south of Myrtle Beach International Airport. Call 839-3500 or visit www.marketcommonevents.com.
