Robin Smith, of Murrells Inlet, is a Charlotte, N.C., native and has been a victim's advocate at the Horry County Police Department in Conway for 10 years. She has a daughter, Ashlyn Coral. They have two dogs, two cats and two fish tanks. She carries two chain links that remind her that someone cared enough to let her know she had their support and that they were praying for her when she was struggling. The links also remind her to pay it forward.
My daughter | makes me smile, no matter what kind of day I've had.
The best thing about my job is | that I hopefully can make a difference by helping people.
The worst thing about my job is | not being able to console someone who is at their worst moment.
My advice to victims is | that they do have rights and there are options.
The best advice my parents gave me was | If you're always doing what you're doing, you get what you always get.
One of my pet peeves is | for somebody to tell me they're going to do something and not do it.
A quote I like is | "While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about."
A hard lesson I've learned | is that just because somebody says they're your friend, it doesn't mean they're always there for you when you need them.
