A 2-week-old boy who was reported missing early Tuesday morning was returned to his mother this afternoon, police said.

The mother, Criche Nelson, reported to police that she placed her one-year-old daughter and two-week-old son in bed at about 11 p.m. Monday. When she checked on her children again after midnight, her two-week-old son was missing.

The baby, Sharawn Jarod Chestnut Jr., was born Oct. 24 and has brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing navy pants, a print blue shirt with footballs and light blue socks.

The baby was returned unharmed, said Catina Hipp, police spokeswoman. Hipp said police have arrested one person and is still questioning another person. The name of the person under arrest has not been released as he or she has not been formally charged.

Cassandra Hickman Strothers, Nelson's cousin, said a family friend took the child and that the baby was found in a green duffle bag and trash bag under the seat of a truck after police pulled the truck over on Mill Pond Road and U.S.501.

More details will be posted as they become available.
