Road goes both ways
If S.C. ways disappoint, leave
Re Ken Skelly letter, "Politics Disappoint New Resident," Oct. 17:
Monday's editorial page is devoted to readers' writings. Each week, the editors will select one or more longer letters for prominent display. These letters may be on any issue - local, state, national or international - and should be no longer than 600 words. Shorter letters will fill out the balance of the page. Letter writers who wish to participate in The Readers' Page should mark their submissions accordingly.
All rose gardens have a few thorns! If your disappointment grows, then you should be aware the road you came in on will take you right back.
Now a word to all you "do-gooders" and "glass house dwellers," especially those politicians.
Governor Mark Sanford tripped and is trying hard to get back up. He should answer only to his higher power, his wife and sons.
Rep. Joe Wilson, thanks for having the nerve to call a spade a spade! We need more of your kind of politician. You get my vote!

Special treatment
Being a 'VIP' like Gilland no excuse
Re the special treatment of Liz Gilland when she was driving 17 miles over the speed limit on River Oaks Drive.
Being called a "VIP" should not excuse her from being ticketed for breaking the law. We are all "VIPS!" Without the hard-working taxpayers, these so-called special people wouldn't have their jobs and nothing could get accomplished.
The patrol officer or supervisor should be reprimanded for making the wrong decision!
I was given a ticket in May. I was dealing with a day of emergencies and my mind was elsewhere, other traffic was speeding by as I came off S.C. 31 to S.C. 544. I was stopped and given a speeding ticket for driving 12 miles over the limit. The officer didn't attempt to listen to my explanation, but after giving me the ticket he made the comment, "You are the nicest people I've dealt with today!" You can be nice people and still get a ticket of $135. But if you're a so-called VIP you get a warning. It appears the good ol' boy system is still at work.
Liz Gilland is no more important than me.
