Q: I will be vacation there starting May 31-what kind of weather can we expect..does it rain a lot? I was also wondering how the water is on the beach..clear?

Answered 02/27/08 10:04:06 by Tonya Root

A: Lesley, You should expect nice sunny days with temperatures in the 80s and 90s during your visit. Depending on your length of visit, I would suggest you plan for a rainy day at some point, but not every day. The ocean should be near 75 degrees so you can plan some beach activities. The ocean here in Myrtle Beach is not crystal clear, but it is a pretty blue.

Q: Hey! my friends and I are vacationing to Myrtle Beach on June 2 through 6. We were wondering if the air and water temperature are very warm or even hot. Thanks, Mary

Answered 02/27/08 10:00:40 by Tonya Root

A: Mary, Since you'll be visiting the area during our summer months, you should expect warm weather. The normal air temperature is 83 degrees during the day and 66 overnight. Record highs have been recorded in the 90s. As for the ocean temperature, expect the water to be near 80 degrees. Good luck with your vacation.

Q: Tonya, on Myrtle beach on line change your title from "Forum" which covers all questions to "weather" and you'll stop getting non- weather questions.

A: Ray, You'll be arriving when the average air temperature is 60 degrees during the day and around 42 degrees overnight, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, N.C. The ocean water temperatures is about 55 degrees during March, according to the National Oceanographic Data Center. I suspect during your visit you'll be able to wade in the ocean, but you might want to rethink swimming for long periods of time. I hope you enjoy your vacation.

Q: Hi Tonya, my family and I will be in Myrtle Beach for the week following Easter this year. I was tying to find out what moon phase the area will be in but i'm having trouble finding it. Can you help? Thanks!

Answered 02/05/08 17:29:17 by Tonya Root

A: Michael, I found the following information using the National Weather Service's web page. Here's a link: www.co-ops.nos.noaa.gov/moon_phases.shtml?year=2008&data_type=monMar. According to the page, March 21, 2008 will be a full moon and by March 29 it will be the last quarter of the moon for the month. Go to the link and see more details. Thanks.

Q: Hey Tonya, What kind of weather can I expect when I visit North Myrtle Beach on 2/15/08? I'll be there for a week and was looking forward to hitting the beach, unless it's really cold. What are the record highs for the area? I don't need to know the lows because I'm sure they're not as cold as New York's.

Answered 01/30/08 20:43:09 by Tonya Root

A: Eli, Thanks for the question. During your time here you can expect the normals to be around 58 degrees. But the record highs are even better with temperatures ranging from 79 to 81 degrees. Even though you said you didn't want to know I thought it would be best to give you some idea of how cold it can get here. The average lows are in the upper 30s, but record lows go all the way down to 19 degrees set on Feb. 16 and Feb. 17 in 1991. Good luck with your visit!

Q: My husband and I are planning to visit Myrtle Beach October 16 - 27 of this year. My questions is how is the weather at that time of year? (Air and Water Temperature)

Answered 01/29/08 01:44:46 by Tonya Root

A: Michele, Congrats on your planned trip to Myrtle Beach. You should expect nice weather during your visit. I always believe September and October are excellent times, weather-wise, to visit Myrtle Beach. The normal temperature for that week is 75 degrees, with record highs of upper 80s, while the overnight normal lows are near 54 degrees with record lows in the 30s, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, N.C. Now if you're planning to swim or play in the Atlantic Ocean during your visit from the West Coast, plan for the average water temperature to be about 67 degrees. The water temperature can vary depending on the number of heating days we've had and such. I hope that information helps you and good luck on your trip

Answered 01/17/08 20:15:38 by Tonya Root

A: Michelle, Since I only focus on weather in the Coastal Carolinas, I am not sure about animal parks in the area. I know there is a zoo, Waccatee Zoo at 8500 Enterprise Road in Socastee, in the area. You might check our website for more information about area attractions. I hope you enjoy your stay here.

Q: My friends an I are planning a vacation to myrtle beach. The time is open right now so I thought maybe you can tell us when is the best time to plan it, weatherwise. Nice beach weather and not hurricane season

Answered 01/17/08 19:52:41 by Tonya Root

A: Jeanne, Nice beach weather occurs for more than 200 days a year here. If you want to avoid hurricane season, you will not want to visit from June 1 to November 30. But I would not recommend that because some of the nicest beach weather occurs during that time. Don't fear hurricane season because this past season the Myrtle Beach area did not even get brushed by a tropical system in the Atlantic. I would suggest you plan your trip for when you would like to be here, i.e. the hottest time July or nicer conditions such as May or September. Just remember to keep a watch on the weather if there is a hurricane brewing in the Atlantic and pay attention to what emergency officials say about it.

Q: do u know of any ins agents in the myrtle beach area.i am moving there march 1 and i just wanted to get a quote.thanks phil sica

Answered 01/17/08 19:47:51 by Tonya Root

A: Since this forum focuses on weather in the Coastal Carolinas I refrain from answering questions about specific places to stay while in town, attractions to visit or real estate agents to visit. You may search www.myrtlebeachonline.com to find all of that information. Thank you for reading and if you have a question about weather please send it over.

Q: looking for a place to stay last week in Feb. in downtown area on beach

Answered 01/17/08 19:42:26 by Tonya Root

A: Debbie, You should enjoy your time here since temperatures will be rising to near 60 degrees on average with daily highs possible in the 70s, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, N.C. There are many great places to stay in the area you want so good luck and enjoy your stay.

Q: Hello Tonya, My friend and I are planning a golf trip from th 25th -the 30th. Can you give me some idea on the weather. This will be my first trip to your great state.

Answered 01/17/08 19:35:32 by Tonya Root

A: Randall, Welcome to South Carolina and the Myrtle Beach area. You are coming at a time when the weather is a bit unpredictable because one day it could be sunny skies 60 degrees and the next day is a cold rainy day with a high of 40 degrees. At the moment temperatures are forecast to be in the 40s and 50s during the day and colder at night. You might want to prepare for a rainy day because it tends to rain more during this time of year. Safe travels and I hope you enjoy the area.

Q: Hi Tonya, Me and my family will be visiting Myrtle Beach in late March - early April. What is the average temperature and also the average precipitation during this time?

Answered 01/04/08 23:09:06 by Tonya Root

A: Unless there's an ice storm that blankets the country, I suspect you won't have to worry about snow during your visit to the Grand Strand. According to the National Weather Service, the average temperature for Myrtle Beach during that period is 56.8 degrees and the average precipitation is 3.79 inches.

Q: Hi, my best friend and i are planning a trip to MB for Feb. 22nd-29th. We were just wondering if the weather would be warm enough for us to sit on the beach all day and tan, or would it turn into more of a shopping trip? Also, what do you recommend as per activities around the area?

Answered 01/04/08 23:04:27 by Tonya Root

A: Brittney, Although it would be nice to sit and tan on the beach during February, don't plan on it unless you're a member of the polar bear club. Typically, the weather in Myrtle Beach during that time is cold for us locals to sit and tan on the beach. The average temperature is around 46 degrees, but there are days such as last year on Feb. 22 when the temperature reached 75 degrees. You should be able to spend some of your time on the beach, but also plan to shop as well when it gets too chilly for beach activites. The area has a variety of things to do and I'm sure you'll be able to entertain yourself once you arrive. Good luck!

Q: We are coming on a golf vacation starting April 19 - what kind of weather can we expect Thanks

Answered 01/04/08 23:01:14 by Tonya Root

A: Dave, You'll be arriving when our temperatures begin to warm. The average temperature in April is around 60 degrees. But last April we recorded a high of 85 and sadly a low of 29 degrees. So be prepared with a variety of clothing and activities lined up. The average rainfall is about 2.5 inches for the month, but recently we've been in a drought so it's meant clear skies. I wish you the best on your visit and with your games.

Q: TAYNA,IWILL BE IN TOWN THE END OF JAN. TO PLAY GOLF WITH THE MRS.. WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OF US NOT BEING ABLE TO PLAY CAUSE OF IT BEING TO COLD?I ALSO OWN A VACATION HOME IN M.B. AND SET MY TEMP IN THEHOME AT 63% IS THAT NOT HIGH ENOUGH?

Answered 01/04/08 22:56:34 by Tonya Root

A: You shouldn't have any problems hitting the greens at the end of January though I would suggest bringin some warm clothing. It tends to get cold during January and February along the Grand Strand. I expect keeping your vacation home set at 63 degrees is a good idea and would be warm enough to keep any frozen pipes at bay. Good luck with your visit, TONYA
