Area sports in brief: CCU women's soccer team ties

Clinton | Kate Hunter scored a pair of second-half goals as the Presbyterian women's soccer team forced a 2-all tie with Coastal Carolina on Friday night.

Hunter's game-tying goal came in the 80th minute, sending the game into a pair of overtimes in which neither team scored. Anny Tupy and Dana Gentile each scored first-half goals for Coastal (3-10-2, 2-2-1 Big South

College volleyball

Coastal Carolina 3 (at) Gardner-Webb 2 | The Chanti cleers narrowly escaped with a win, holding on 25-14, 29-27, 23-25, 23-25, 15-13.

Chelsy Kimes had 23 kills and Meagan Tracey added 56 assists and nine digs for Coastal (11-9, 5-2 Big South).bb

College men's cross country

Boone, N.C. | The Coastal Carolina men's cross country team finished fourth at the 19-team Blue Ridge Mountain Open hosted by Appalachian State.

Kyle Kling led the way for the Chants, finishing eighth with a time of 25 minutes, 25 seconds. Other Coastal finishers were: Jamie McCarthy (17th, 25:37); Max Hacker (37th, 26:08); Jarod Williams (51st, 26:19); Ryan Caputo (90th, 27:07); and David Mead (119th, 27:59).

College women's cross country

Boone, N.C. | The Coastal Carolina women's cross country team finished ninth in the 5,000-meter Blue Ridge Mountain Open.

Shelby Donahue (19:04.25) and Janel Reeves (19:04.66) were Coastal's top finishers, at 19th and 20th, respectively, of the 133 runners. The Chants' other runners were: Theresa Schamberger (45th, 19:43), Christian Johnson (55th, 19:52) and Jessica Denn ison (69th, 20:19).

College men's golf

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. | The Coastal Carolina men's golf team shot 7-over 295 and was in 10th place after the first round of the Bank of Tennessee/Ridges Invitational at The Ridges Golf Club.

Oregon State was the first-round leader after a 286. Coastal's Drew Ernst shot 2-under 70 and was tied for fifth. The Chants' other players were: Sam Lyons (tied 18th, 72); Dan Obremski (tied 53rd, 76); Sebastian Soderberg (tied 61st, 77); and Anders Larson (81st, 88).

At) Aynor 5, Cheraw 2| The Blue Jackets remained undefeated in Region VIII-AA play with a win over Cheraw.
