Coastal soccer leads league

ROCK HILL -- The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team knocked off rival Winthrop 3-1 on Tuesday to move into first place in the Big South Conference.

The Chanticleers are 4-0-3 in the conference and 7-2-6 overall. The win is the Chants' third in a row and extends their unbeaten streak to streak 11.

CCU junior Matt Schroeder scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 30th minute, junior Joseph Anderson scored the Chants' first goal of the game and Luis Faz had two assists for his first points as a Chanticleer.

CCU goalie Scott Angevine had three saves and the teams each had nine shots..

Daniel Di Biagio scored Winthrop's goal.

The Chanticleers finish the regular season against Radford at 7 p.m. Saturday, the final home game for seven seniors.

Women's college volleyball

(At) Coastal Carolina 3, Winthrop 2 | Coastal Carolina lost the first two sets but rallied to beat Winthrop 21-25, 18-25, 25-20, 25-16, 15-11.

The Chanticleers improved to 16-11 overall and 9-4 in the Big South while the Eagles fell to 17-9 and 9-4 in the Big South. Both teams are currently tied for third place in the league with the regular season coming to a close.

CCU junior Chelsy Kimes had 22 kills and eight digs while Meagan Tracey had 55 assists and four blocks.

CCU will play its final regular-season home game at 7 p.m. Friday against Presbyterian.

Girls high school tennis

(At) Bishop England 6, Aynor 1 | The Blue Jackets' season came to an end with the loss to the Bishops in the second round of the Class AA playoffs. Aynor's lone win in the match came at No. 1 singles, where freshman Makela Rae Toth won to finish her season at 12-5 in singles action.

The Blue Jackets return every player from this year's squad, which finished the season with a 15-3 record.

(At) Waccamaw 4, Pelion 2 | The Warriors advance to the Lower State Finals with their win over Pelion on Tuesday afternoon.

Waccamaw will play Bishop England at Sumter at 2 p.m on Friday.

(At) Green Sea Floyds 7, East Clarendon 0 | Tori Jordan and Caitlin Tiller won their singles matches then paired up and won 8-1 in doubles in the Trojans shut out over East Clarendon.

The Trojans advance to the third round of the Lower State Finals against the Johnsonville/Academic Magnet winner.

Girls high school volleyball

Waccamaw 3, (at) Dillon 2 | The Warriors advance to the Lower State Finals with their victory over the Wildcats in five games (25-23, 24-26, 21-25, 25-23, 19-17).

Olivia Gay had two kills, Kayla Gulley had five kills and six blocks, Loren Hill had seven kills and three blocks, Melaina Moore had five kills and eight blocks while Cecilia Glenn had a 90% set rate and Rebekka Kuhnel had 17 hits and the game winning kill.
