Carvers Bay (10-1) at Hemingway (10-1)
What | S.C. playoffs, Class A, Division I, second round
When | 7:30 p.m.
The game | The Bears lead the series 4-3 since 2004. This is the second year in a row the teams will meet twice during a season. Last year, Hemingway won the regular-season matchup 13-8 while Carvers Bay won 10-2 in the second round of the playoffs. This game is typically a defensive battle, especially recently. For the season, Hemingway has given up just 45 points with a high of 12 in a season-opening loss to Kingstree. The Tigers have five shutouts. Carvers Bay has given up 103 points and has three shutouts. In the first meeting this season, neither team was able to do much offensively, with Hemingway gaining 138 yards of offense and Carvers Bay 117. That game was suspended at halftime due to heavy rain and lightning and concluded on Saturday. Carvers Bay's lone score came after a bobbled snap on a Hemingway punt attempt was recovered at the Tigers' 3-yard line. Hemingway was able to drive 98 yards in the final five minutes of the game and scored with seven seconds left. The Tigers went to a spread attack and were successful against the Bears with the pass on that drive. Carvers Bay has to find a way to move the ball and that might necessitate a more prominent passing attack, something the Bears have gotten better at late in the season.
Last meeting | Hemingway 7, Carvers Bay 6, on Sept. 18 this season
