Superflicks: More Superheroes Hit the Screens
By David W. Powers
For Weekly Surge
"Iron Man'' isn't the only superhero/comic book movie hitting theaters this year.
Here are some more to look out for on the near horizon:
"Speed Racer" on May 9. The souped-up anime version of NASCAR comes to us from the Wachowski brothers.
"Incredible Hulk" on June 13. A sequel to the previous movie but with Edward Norton as the green beast. Can you say "Fight Club" on gamma rays?
"Hellboy II: The Golden Army" on July 11. This one promises to go a little deeper, as those pesky denizens of the underworld want to come to the surface again.
"Batman: The Dark Knight" on July 18. The next installment of Christian Bale's Batman will also feature one of Heath Ledger's last roles - as the Joker. The Joker version of the movie poster is already selling for around $150.
Coming in 2009...
"JLA" - A live action version of the world's most famous super-team (Justice League of America) featuring Superman, Batman, The Flash, Wonder Woman, and possibly a few others.
"G.I. Joe" - It's about time. We'll surely find out it was really Cobra Commander behind all the terrorist attacks. The cast so far includes Marlon Wayans and Sienna Miller.
"Watchmen" - Expect this movie to feel a lot like the world of "V for Vendetta."
"The Boys"- This series is about a group of super-powered C.I.A. agents who police the world of superheroes.
"Wolverine" - Busting out from the "X-Men'' shadows, the clawed one's debut film will feature Ryan Reynolds as smart aleck villain Deadpool and the Black Eyed Peas' Will.i.am in his first big screen role. And of course, sideburn bedecked Hugh Jackman as Logan/Wolverine. |
