When the jams are all kicked out the main room of the HOB during Widespread Panic's three-night run, The Denmark Veseys will keep the ball rolling at the adjacent Gator Bar. Although the show is being billed by the venue as the Jerry Joseph Band on its website, it is according to Joseph's publicity firm, actually The Denmark Veseys , a powerful duo featuring singer/songwriter Jerry Joseph and drummer Steve Drizos. Named for a West Indian slave who attempted a massive slave rebellion in Charleston in the early 1800s, the duo's sound is gritty and spare with Joseph's evocative lyrics painting portraits of America that serve as historical documents, warts and all. Known for his work with his previous trio, The Jackmormons, Joseph can write a hell of a song and his voice, reminiscent of Elvis Costello, Steve Earle and John Hiatt, pushes his point deeper in to the skin of the listener. Joseph has collaborated with WSP bassist Dave Schools in the past and one can place even money that some of the WSP fellahs may wander over after their gig for some late night jammin'.
