Here are some local animal advocacy-related events coming up along the Grand Strand:

Opening Reception for "Reigning Cats and Dogs and Creatures of All Kinds," 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Saturday, THE LOFT AT THE HOWARD GALLERY, 532 Broadway, Myrtle Beach. Admission is free, and some of the proceeds from the sale of art will benefit Waccamaw Animal Rescue Mission (WARM). Call 626-3118.

Dinner and a Show, 6 p.m. Aug. 21, THE CAROLINA OPRY, 8901 U.S. 17 N., Myrtle Beach. The Carolina Opry will host a benefit show with 50 percent of the proceeds being donated to the Grand Strand Humane Society. Tickets are $85 for the show and a pre-show dinner at Chestnut Hill, or $45 just for the show. Tickets must be purchased through the Grand Strand Humane Society at 3241 Mr. Joe White Ave., Myrtle Beach. Call 445-2909.

Business Duck Race, 1:30 p.m., Sept. 6, INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY, Barefoot Landing, North Myrtle Beach. The North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce is encouraging businesses to purchase a duck to decorate as their mascot to participate in the Fourth Annual Paws Across the Water Rubber Duck Race which benefits the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach. Business ducks are $150, and can be purchased at the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce which is located at 270 U.S. 17 N., North Myrtle Beach. Prizes will be awarded for the Top Duck In Town and People's Choice. Call 249-4948.

Fourth Annual Paws Across the Water, 2 p.m. Sept. 6, INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY, Barefoot Landing, North Myrtle Beach. Ducks are available at various locations including Barefoot Landing and the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach or can be adopted online at www.duckrace.com/northmyrtlebeach. Prizes include a $5,000 gas card, dinner and show packages. All proceeds benefit the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach. Call 249-4948.
