Equality March is Set

Organizers and people around the nation are setting the stage for the National Equality March on Oct. 10 -11 in the nation’s capital. The march is being organized by Equality Across America, a grassroots network (project of the Tides Center) that, according to its Web site, is “united by their belief that the time has come for decisive action from the federal government to secure LGBT rights.” . . .

Bar Raids Reminiscent of Riots

The last year has seen a lot of successes in LGBT equality. However, as I always say, there's still a lot of work to be done.

June 28 marked the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York City, which is seen as the defining moment marking the beginning of the modern gay rights movement. Marches, celebrations and even a reception in the East Room of the White House occurred that week celebrating and remembering LGBT history and the community's continued fight for equality.

In the 19th Century people used surgical removal of the ovaries, castration and hypnosis to “cure” homosexuality. Sorry. I guess that’s not the most appealing way to start off my column, but read on.
