Local Restaurant notes
Brothers Jim Hardy and Scott Roughton bought Marti's on 16th Avenue North in January and decided to turned it into a casual restaurant. On Oct. 19 it became the Dawg Eat Dog Diner, and is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays (closed on weekends). Breakfasts range from sandwiches for $3.50 to Steak and Eggs for $7.50. Lunches include a burger, brats, polish sausage and more than a dozen hot dog choices, including the Carolina Dog with slaw, chili, onions and mustard. Delivery is available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays from 48th Avenue North to 13th Avenue South, from U.S. 17 Bypass to the ocean. Dawg Eat Dog Diner is at 504 16th Ave. N., and the number is 448-7850.
All three locations of Duffy Street Seafood Shack started an off-season Locals' Appreciation Happy Hour Special from 4-8 p.m. daily through March. During those hours free wings (house Asian flavor) will be served at the bar. Shrimp are 25 cents, steamed or raw oysters are 50 cents, clams are 50 cents, snow crab clusters are $6.95, domestic beers are $2.50 and well drinks are $3.50. Duffy Street Seafood Shack is open at noon every day, and on Fridays and Saturdays is open until at least 10 p.m. The three locations are 202 Main St., North Myrtle Beach, 281-9840; 319 Sea Mountain Highway, North Myrtle Beach, 249-7902; and 9924 N. Black River Grill has launched Wild Game Weekends with a different game meat featured in specials Fridays through Sundays through the end of the year. In addition to kangaroo, other wild game that will be featured during upcoming weekends are wild boar, ostrich, venison and duck. Black River Grill is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, and the number is 750-0296. It's at 1000 S. Commons Drive.
The Thirsty Turtle was closed temporarily, but it has reopened. Plumbing problems were afoot, and the bar and grill owned by Susanne, Dick and Lex Hyre was closed Oct. 22-25. The Thirsty Turtle is at the intersection of U.S. 17 Bypass and Lake Arrowhead Road, in the Restaurant Row section of Myrtle Beach. The number is 449-3449.
