cruisin’ the coast with a fat tire
Make room for the latest bomber.
Weighing in at a full 22 ounces, Fat Tire, the New Belgium Brewing Company’s amber ale, is now available in North Carolina and will soon hit shelves in South Carolina. In May, the Fort Collins, Colo., brew will be released in glass bottle singles for a 90-day trial period throughout South Carolina and will become available on draft in some Myrtle Beach bars if there is a strong enough demand. It will be sold in most convenience and grocery stores along the Grand Strand, where it’s sure to stand out with its colorful and creative label featuring a red bicycle. Expect to pay around $2.99 in stores and $5 to $7 in bars.
Rodney Lewis, customer service representative for Coastal Beverage Company in Wilmington, N.C, said that Fat Tire is being distributed by his company; the official Miller Lite distributor for eastern North Carolina. Coastal Beverage also carries two other New Belgium brands, Lewis said: Mothership Wit, an organic wheat beer, and 1554, black ale.
Fat Tire sales in Wilmington have done well over the past month, according to Coastal Beverage delivery supervisor, Tony Walters. He said he feels that Fat Tire and the other New Belgium brands will prove to be top sellers this spring and summer. The exact release date for Fat Tire in the Myrtle Beach area is still unknown.
But go ahead and clear a shelf in the fridge and space in your coolers. You’ll want to stock up on the newest beverage to reach the beach.
