flame on: grilled and fast in conway
flamers burgers & chicken
setting the table
Next time you’re in the mood for a delicious burger, do yourself a favor and eat at Flamers, located on the corner of Elm and Third Avenue in downtown Conway. Flamers is a restaurant that, according to its Web site, capitalizes on the need for high quality, popular foods prepared fresh for a quick delicious meal. Most burgers offered in fast food restaurants lack the flavor you get from a hot open flame. Flamers touts the fact that its burgers are made of nothing less than 100 percent real beef and are charbroiled. Flamers, a franchise that has been in business since 1987, has more than 50 locations in 16 states and three countries and recently opened in Conway.
The atmosphere inside is relaxed and comfortable; I was welcomed at the door like I was a regular customer. The dining room is both attractive and clean, with colorful walls against brown brick, and burgundy booths with black and brown chairs.
down the hatch
The menu offers the classic burger, cheeseburgers, bacon cheeseburgers, mushroom Swiss burgers and Cajun cheeseburgers with the toppings you choose. The burgers vary in size, too; you can have either a one-third pound or one-half pound. I chose the half-pound bacon cheddar burger and it was absolutely delicious. It had a fresh charbroiled taste and the bacon was crispy, just the way I like it.
Flamers also serves chicken sandwiches and wraps, and several salads and a turkey burger for light eaters. Side items include six types of French fries and onion straws. I ordered a side of Cajun fries with my burger and they were deliciously crispy and seasoned. As far as drinks are concerned Flamers offers all types of Pepsi products and bottled water, but no alcohol.
Prices are very reasonable. The burgers range from $3.55 to $5.25, the chicken sandwiches and the various wraps from $4.45 to $4.75. Prices on the “lite” side of the menu range from $3.45 to $6.25. Adding a drink and a side of fries costs anywhere from $1.49 to $3.09. A combo meal, which includes fries and a medium beverage, is an extra $2.50. My combo meal — bacon-cheddar burger, Cajun fries and a Pepsi — set me back only $8.
check, please
Although Flamers was busy during my visit, I stepped up to the counter and ordered my burger just the way I wanted it: a bacon-cheddar burger medium well with onions, lettuce, ketchup and mayonnaise. I waited about 10 minutes and than my order was called out. I grabbed my burger, fries, and Pepsi and sat down at one of the many tables and enjoyed a fabulous meal. I recommend Flamers to anyone looking for a quick, yet delicious meal, and I’d definitely go back.
