THE LOWDOWN | We hit Sharkey's Beach Bar & Restaurant in Myrtle Beach for happy hour this week, where you can find the beach, sand volleyball, bar games, good food and cheap drinks.
The most impressive aspect of Sharkey's is the beautiful view of the ocean from this beachfront bar. The bar opens out to the beach with tables outside and a sand volleyball court, and there's also a patio out front on Ocean Boulevard. Because a skylight extends across the entire roof, you feel like you're outside even when you're sitting at the bar. The bright blue walls add to the beachiness of this locale.
If sand volleyball isn't your style, then you can play a number of bar games inside, including pool, Golden Tee, Silver Strike and Power Putt.
You may not believe it, but this bar opens at 6 a.m. for breakfast. Complete with eggs, omelettes, pancakes and grits, also enjoy a bloody mary for your ultimate hangover cure. Sharkey's also serves lunch and dinner, a menu ranging from pizza to burgers and sandwiches, a kids menu and a plethora of appetizers.
During Happy Hour, which runs daily from 4 -7 p.m., you can enjoy six wings for $1.50. Happy Hour drink specials include $3 Jagermeister and house liquors, $2 domestic drafts, $2.25 domestic bottled beer and deals on imports as well. Better yet - all day everyday you can get $1.50 Natural Light bottles, $2 vodkas and $2.50 Long Island Iced Teas.
Sharkey's also offers drink specials throughout the week. Mondays are Yueng-wing day, with $2 Yuengling and 25-cent wings. Tuesday is SIN night with a number of discounted drinks for service industry workers, and anyone can enjoy those deals on Thirsty Thursdays. Working Women's Wednesday has $2 cosmos and martinis.
