THE LOCALE| Sandpiper's Tiki Hut
Island Vista Resort, Myrtle Beach
THE LOWDOWN | The season is almost over … so you better head out to the Sandpipers Tiki Hut Surf and Beach Cafe at the Island Vista Resort in Myrtle Beach soon. That’s where we hit this week for happy hour, just in time to see a beautiful sunset and the Atlantic Ocean.
The Sandpipers Tiki Hut is the epitome of beach, surf and sunsets. It’s nestled at the north end of the pool deck at the Island Vista Resort and has an amazing view of the ocean combined with a plethora of Palmetto trees around the perimeter. You can’t beat the view or the relaxed atmosphere as you sip on drinks, chat and enjoy delicious food.
You won’t find many tiki huts without a nautical theme, but this one takes it to the extreme with authentic fishing nets, lobster traps, buoys and a surf board tucked up top. A talented artist painted nautical scenes on bar stools and a map of the Grand Strand on the bar. You can sit around the tiki bar, at picnic tables tucked in the corner, or grab a drink and relax in one of the many poolside lounge chairs. A server will bring your food so you don't even have to get up.
The menu includes deli sandwiches, salads, appetizers such as quesadillas or hummus with veggies and pita chips, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, seafood baskets … and you can even munch on a grilled cheese sandwich or PB&J.
Of course, there’s a variety of frozen drinks, and specialty drinks include the Palm Margarita, daiquiris with floaters, the Myrtle Mai Tai and Captain Bob’s Pina Colada. During happy hour, which runs 5-7 p.m., frozen delights are $7 and Pirate’s Punch is 5 bucks.
Local crowds gather at Sandpipers Tiki Hut on Fridays from 7-10 p.m. for Reggae Night. The house reggae band is a compilation of reggae players from across the area. You can also hit the bar on Wednesdays for Luau Night. There’s a fire dancer and you can even learn how to hula dance.
TIPS | You can also enjoy live music during the day … a guitar player sits poolside and performs a number of well known songs. There’s a parking garage right next to the tiki bar patrons can use.
