Dunes Village Tiki Bar, Myrtle Beach
The lowdown | Despite the recent cool snap and spate of rain, the time is still perfect to hit up the beach-side tiki bar at Dunes Village, which plans to stay open even though the main summer tourist season is over. That's where we hit during happy hour this week for the wonderful weather, beautiful view and great drink specials.
The tiki bar sits on the pool deck, right next to a hot tub and swimming pool. The area is complete with an array of palmetto trees, plants and flowers.
The square bar has bar stools all around it, each with an outstanding view of the beach and ocean. There's a nice breeze to keep you cool during the warm days, and a blue tiki roof blocks the sun as you sip refreshing drinks. Plus, there are two flat panel TVs, so you can watch football while enjoying the nice weather.
If belly-up at the bar isn't your style, you can head over to nearby relaxing wooden swings or picnic tables with umbrellas. There's also a grass volleyball court next door.
The tiki bar is known for its Happy Monkey, a frozen rum concoction. If you're hard core, you can get a bucket drink for $15, like the Voodo Juice, which contains five rums. Beware, you may not be able to walk straight if you don't share it.
Happy hour runs from 4-7 p.m. at the tiki bar, and locals are welcome. Specials include $1 discounted beer, house liquors and appetizers such as chicken wings, crab cakes, nachos, calamari and chicken fingers.
Tips | Park at the beach access next door ... and enter through the back gate.
