The lowdown | Our weekly quest for good times and cheap drinks takes us to the south end of the Strand to Pawleys Island, where we stop in 811 Steak & Pasta. This low-key retreat is an ideal location for enjoying a drink with friends before settling down for dinner.
The bar area is the central hub of the restaurant, located in the right rear corner; its large Z-shape and wall-sized wine rack create a focal point for the room. Drawing in thirsty patrons, its oak countertop, black leather chairs, and low lighting offers a relaxing and inviting spot for enjoying a drink or two.
A large flat panel television, tuned to sports highlights during our visit, sits nestled in the middle of the large wine rack filled with an exorbitant display of red wine. Next to it numerous corked bottles of red wine sit awaiting their next pour, while overhead stemware hangs catching the light. Another corner of the bar houses an additional flat panel television and the bottles of liquor available. The bar area in general is clean and uncluttered, allowing the bartender to serve with grace and ease. During this happy hour visit, soft music played while a few locals enjoyed bottles of beer before meeting friends for dinner.
Happy Hour runs everyday from 4 - 6 p.m. in the bar area and includes $1.50 domestics and $2.50 house liquor. On Sundays, kick back and enjoy NFL action with happy hour pricing all day and catch the game on one of the flat panel TVs.
