The Locale | The Brentwood Restaurant & Wine Bistro, Little River
the lowdown | This week we hit The Brentwood Restaurant & Wine Bistro, located in a charming Victorian house tucked away just a block off U.S. 17 in Little River. The serene and traditional setting makes you feel like you've stepped back 100 years in time.
The quaint, historic home is beautiful inside and out. It was built in 1910 and used in the mid-1940s as a bed and breakfast where fisherman could rent a room for $1 a night and buy a hearty breakfast for 50 cents. Brothers from Brentwood, Long Island, bought and restored the home in the 1980s (hence the name) and turned it into an elegant restaurant.
The bar sits on the second floor and has a quiet and sophisticated atmosphere. Light conversations can be heard over the soft music playing in the background. You can catch live jazz music on the weekends from 6:30-10 p.m.
The decor, complete with Victorian furniture, antiques and old family photos, makes you feel like you're back in the 1900s. The dining area is spread throughout the first floor rooms, and a private dining area sits upstairs, mimicking your very own dining room in your home.
The Brentwood specializes in Lowcountry French cuisine with an emphasis on fresh and local quality products and dishes. Tapas, light appetizers, are a unique twist on the menu. The Wine Bistro has an extensive wine list for connoisseurs.
Happy Hour specials include $2 domestic beers, $3 select wines and $4 martinis. Plus you can try tapas or cheese dishes for just $3 each. The deals run Monday through Saturday from 5-7 p.m.
Tips | Dinner starts at 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
