We’ve got you covered with this recap of the week’s headlines:
Park readies for debut
Freestyle Music Park, the former short-lived Hard Rock Park, continues to unveil more details as the 55-acre attraction readies for its May 23 opening. In attempt to make the park more family-friendly, the new owners unveiled two variety shows on Tuesday, one called “Adrenaline Rush’’ featuring so called “extreme sports’’ such as BMX bikes and skating, and another revue called “Ice Cold Country’’ a country music variety show performed on ice. It appears the park will retain the section devoted to British rock; and last week park officials showed off a kid-friendly entertainment offering called “Flip 5 Live.” Although the park is retaining its music themes, oddly, published reports have stated that it will not host concerts – as Hard Rock Park did bringing in the likes of the Eagles, Kid Rock and The Moody Blues – at the facility’s built-in outdoor amphitheater. Meanwhile, the park’s centerpiece, the former Led Zeppelin: The Ride is being transformed into The Time Machine, no doubt a nod to H.G. Wells. Instead of Zep’s “Whole Lotta Love’’ blasting through the speakers, the coaster will feature five different tunes from the 1960s, ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s and 2000s. But those tracks have not yet been identified publicly. The Eagles-themed “Life in the Fast Lane’’ rollercoaster has been renamed the Iron Horse, while details on how the trippy Moody Blues dark ride will be transformed for family fare have yet to emerge.
