Podpicks for August 6, 2009

- for Weekly Surge

This week we’ve tapped another nationally touring singer-songwriter, this time Americana songbird Tift Merritt, to recommend tracks for downloading (legally, of course) to your ‘pod or other personal media device.

“123 Goodbye,’’ by Elvis Perkins – I love this whole album but especially the poignancy of this song. It made me cry the first to time I heard it.

“Keep Me in Mind,’’ by Little Joy – The sounds on this album are so warm and great, and this tune is perfectly catchy. Like ginger candy.

“Looking Up,’’ by Shelby Lynne – One that you makes you hit repeat. Again.  The chords are devastatingly simple.

“After Hours” by The Velvet Underground – I love this whole album (“The Velvet Underground”).

You can catch Tift Merritt opening up for Drive-By Truckers on Aug. 21 at the House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach. Check her out online at www.tiftmerritt.com.
