Podpicks for September 17, 2009
This week, the Pod Picks guest chair is occupied by Dave “Blue” Fields, of local country radio station, Gator 107.9-FM, identifies some end-of-summer tracks you can download (legally, of course) to your iPod or other personal media device.
He says: “As I sit and ponder the end of summer I thought about some great bands that I used to listen to in my youth that may not still be together but have never left my memory.”
“Rosy and Grey” by Lowest of the Low - This is a classic example of Canadian rock at its best. Coming off the “Shakespeare My Butt” album, this song winds you through the streets of Toronto as a boy ponders his relationship with a girl. Like many of our relationships, things are not always black and white but mainly “Rosy and Grey.”
“Punk Rock Girl” by The Dead Milkmen – A true punk rock song about a boy and girl. Boy meets girl, boy and girl yell “Mojo Nixon” at the top of their lungs, boy leaves with girl in stolen car for a trip around the world. At some point in our lives we have always looked for that “Punk Rock” person, whether to rebel against our parents to enlighten us to the so-called “other side” of music. The Dead Milkmen found the perfect mate – A “Punk Rock Girl.”
“Lost in You” by Chris Gaines – While still around in his more famous guise, i.e. Garth Brooks, Chris Gaines rocked the alt-rock world with his “Greatest Hits” debut album in 1999. That was the same year I graduated college and like Chris/Garth I wasn’t quite sure who I was as a recent grad. Also like Chris/Garth I found through my foray into rock that in my heart, I was truly a country person. That’s why I work for Gator 107.9.
–You can catch Blue on the “Gator Morning Show” from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. weekdays on WGTR, 107.9-FM.
